چکیده

The rotation-powered pulsar PSR J1846−0258 in the supernova remnant Kes 75 was recently shown to have exhibited magnetar-like X-ray bursts in mid2006. Radio emission has not yet been observed from this source, but other magnetar-like sources have exhibited transient radio emission following X-ray bursts. We report on a deep 1.9 GHz radio observation of PSR J1846−0258 with the 100-m Green Bank Telescope in late 2007 designed to search for radio pulsations or bursts from this target. We have also analyzed three shorter serendipitous 1.4 GHz radio observations of the source taken with the 64-m Parkes telescope during the 2006 bursting period. We detected no radio emission from PSR J1846−0258 in either the Green Bank or Parkes datasets. We place an upper limit of 4.9 μJy on coherent pulsed emission from PSR J1846−0258 based on the 2007 November 2 observation, and an upper limit of 27 μJy around the time of the X-ray bursts. Serendipitously, we observed radio pulses from the nearby RRAT J1846−02, and place a 3σ confidence level upper limit on its period derivative of 1.7 × 10, implying its surface dipole magnetic field is less than 2.6× 10 G. A Magnetar-like Outburst from a High-b Radio Pulsar

Radio pulsars are believed to have their emission powered by the loss of rotational kinetic energy. By contrast, magnetars show intense X-ray and γ-ray radiation whose luminosity greatly exceeds that due to spin-down and is believed to be powered by intense internal magnetic fields. A basic prediction of this picture is that radio pulsars of high magnetic field should show magnetar-like emissio...

Radio-quiet X-ray Pulsars in Supernova Remnants and the “missing” Pulsar Problem

The paradigm that young neutron stars (NSs) evolve as rapidly rotating Crab-like pulsars requires re-examination. Evidence is accumulating that, in fact, many young NS are slowly rotating (P ∼ 10s) X-ray pulsars, lacking in detectable radio emission. We present new results on three radio-quiet NS candidates associated with supernova remnants, which suggests that alternative evolutionary-paths e...

The Distance of the SNR Kes 75 and PWN PSR J 1846 - 0258 System

The supernova remnant (SNR) Kes 75/PSR J1846-0258 association can be regarded as a certainty due to the accurate location of young PSR J1846-0258 at the center of Kes 75 and the detected bright radio/X-ray synchrotron nebula surrounding the pulsar. We provide a new distance estimate to the SNR/pulsar system by analyzing the HI and 13 CO maps, the HI emission and absorption spectra, and the 13 C...

Chandra X-ray Imaging Spectroscopy of the Young Supernova Remnant Kesteven 75

We present a spatially resolved spectroscopic analysis of the young Galactic supernova remnant Kes 75 (SNR G29.7-0.3) using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Kes 75 is one of an increasing number of examples of a shell-type remnant with a central pulsar powering an extended radio/X-ray core. We are able to pinpoint the location of the recently discovered pulsar, PSR J1846−0258, and confirm that X-...
